UV spread.....

xitch45 Feb 15, 2004 10:49 AM

I have a Bearded Dragon on top of a coffee table in my room and my uro is in a 55 gal. tank on the floor, but right beside him. They form a "L", with the beardie raised up-if you understand what I'm trying to explain. My question is if I put the florescent UVB/A bulb on the Dragon's cage, would the UV spread reach into the Mali's cage? I would really like to know, that way i don't have to go buy another light. I am posting pics of all my lizards in a few minutes, so if you check the post here in Uro forum, you will be able to see where the beardie's cage is. If this is too confusing, just reply and tell me.

THANKS A LOT for any info.

Keep in mind...Flourecents provide UVB within "inches!!!" of bulb. Mercury Vapor bulbs emit UVB & UVA in substantual quanities much farther. Have you considered T-REX Urodust or other forms of supplimenting?

i agree, your flourescents only go 8-12 inches...then there isn't enough of a consentration of UVB to do any good. it would be better to just supplement your uro, and have the UVB over your dragon.

i'm usin UVB and supplementation right now just cause i've got an extra UVB bulb...when this ones done...i'll be back to just supplementing. hope this helps

The main need for the uro is a Calcium & D3 supplement only? No uv light nor other vitamins?

the main purpase of UVis to assist in the production/conversion of D3.....if you give them the calcium they need for their bones, and the D3 that they need they don't need the UV.

uros do need other vitamins though. all we were sayin is that if you supplement with a calcium and D3 you don't need to have UV.

hope this helps

As long as you are dusting the salads with a calcium supplement that contians d3, you don't have to worry whether the uv is reaching the mali's enclosure(which I'm sure it's not).
