looking for mouse breeder in Houston - longish post

fatratboopsy Feb 15, 2004 01:01 PM

greetings to all,

I am in the process of starting up a breeder colony of mice, and am needing another male mouse/ 2-3 more females. I am willing to drive within an hour or so of Houston(so Galverston, Conroe, etc.. are options). A "'pet-only" breeder would be fine, as the mise I'd be buying would truly be pets, just can't say the same for their offspring. I've bought from the two big companies(Petsmart & Petco, whom I work for), as well as an independant store whose stock I trust, but want to add another bloodline, ans am having no luck finding a breeder, so I am turning to the most knowledgable source I've ever found. 99% of the time I don't need to post, just read the archives, but I struck out this time, and started typing.

Thanks in advance for any/all help,
Kim Maywhort, Fat Rat extraordinare

I also live in Houston, if you get an answer please forward it to me... There are a couple petshops near me that sell mice, I will go around take a look at them and get back to you...

What side of town you live on?

In Bellaire...to be honnest, I work for Petco, but I've already got a few of my breeders from there, and prefer to have 3 seperate bloodlines to work with. The other male is from Petsmart, and his mates are from S&S, which if you've never been to, you must make time. I'd prefer fancy, since the breeders themselves are sortof pets(if nothing else, they're easier to look at when they're cute). Thanks in advance for the help!!!

I found lab mice (ICRs I think) at Pet City I believe they also had a brownish colored mice. I think the store is on Gessner... Or maybe bellaire, it is in the Yellow Pages. The lab mice cost me about 2 dollars each and the others were selling for 1.50 they look to be in good shape and all the ones I saw looked fertile. I got a few ICRs to start breeding, I wouldn't be surprised if all the females there were pregnant as they were housed with males as well.

I went by the fountains pet store, no mice there... haver gerbils and rabbits and stuff though.

I am going to go by one more store here in a minute and see what they have, I believe they had mice last time I went in... It is a store on Fondren/Bellfort

Yea the store on Fondren/Bellfort shopping center had some nice ones in comparison to the other shops. Haven't looked at petco/petsmart though.

They had the lab style, I think I saw a pure black, and they have cow style (black and white) and I think they had brown ones as well

Where exactly/ what's the name of the store at Fornden/Bellfort?? I'll either swing by there before work tomorrow or Thursday. As for Petco/Petsmart, all the stores in the area get their mice from the same supplier; we have ours, and Petsmart has their's. And the shop w/ the lab style mice, where's it at?

Hmm I think these are it... From yellow pages.

I am not sure about breeds as this is my first day with mice, so don't get mad if I am wrong

City Pets (lab mice and I think brownish mice)

Fish And Pets (had black, cows, lab and I think a brown type)
11192 Fondren Rd

When do you work? Would like to see your stuff sometime.

I know where city pets is, and will stop by there later this morning and take a look. Fish and Pets will be tomorrow's stop. I'm heading into work at 2pm today, but currently at work only have two female fancy mice, neither one of which is old enough to breed, which is a shame because one of them's really cute. I've got several breeding-age boys, a couple of which I like the patterns on. Then there's the common(lab) mice, of which I keep 60 in at any given time; mostly males, but a few girls slip in on each order. Feel free to stop by, if you'd like... I'm always up for meeting new faces. Thanks again for the mouse hunting!!

Kim
