Considering a Retic

jtrott Feb 15, 2004 01:04 PM

I am considering purchasing my first Retic, and I was wondering what kind of growth should I expect. For example, and I know it is hard to predict, what kind of growth should I expect by 1 year. I have a Burm already, would they grow and about the same rate in the first year?

Thanks for any help,
Jason

By one year your retic should be anywhere from 7 to 9 feet. But if you feed it a lot it can be much longer, and in turn if you feed it very moderately it can be considerably shorter. Yes, their growth patterns *can* be compared to burmese. But,.. burms slow down at 10 or 11 feet. Retics still grow fairly rapidly until they are 14-16 foot range. They remain relatively "thin" for quite a while, but will suddenly put on good weight/girth at about 14 feet (females).

Thanks Brian. We have talked a few times about Burms, but I think this is the first time that I have heard you talk about Retics. I did not even know you kept any. Anyway, thanks for the info.

p.s. The little one I am getting is only about 2' and already tame, well I guess as tame as a little one can be. No bites, yet.

Yeah buddy, I have more retics than burms, lol. Though I have to admit,... I love the burms a little more (just a little!).
