Just rambling on...this forum

dannygood1 Feb 15, 2004 03:35 PM

First, why are there virtually no pics of captive, adult green anacondas (or even yellows for that matter, DFR excepted)? No one has any?

Second, relating to the above, is that it sure would be nice if there were a "permanent" list of posts. Much information and experience is lost since these messages get rolled away, off to the archive bit bucket I guess. Some posts are just temporary chit-chat, for instance, I posted a pic of my new baby anaconda, but it has no lasting value. Off to the bit-bucket is OK. But some posts about anaconda care, health, etc. are valuable and sure would be nice if there were a "permanent" place for them. The forum moderator could decide which posts have permanent value. Well, those are my thoughts...end of my rambling.

You can search through the old posts with the link at the top of
the page. You can get loads of good info on just about anything
you might be looking for.

Virtually no pics? I think you're exaggerating a bit. I'm going
to figure out how to post pics and I'll try and post pics of my
Yellow anaconda on here. If you've really got a Jones for pics
you can look throught the boa classifieds. There's always a
few anaconda pics in there. C-ya.............tc

It's the adult, captive adult greens that there are virtually no pics of. I've searched the entire photo gallery, and there is only one pic, not even sure it is captive. Check it out yourself.

I'm into the Yellow Anacondas. There probably aren't all that
many adults in captivity. I've seen a number of pics of adults
on the classifieds, but they were all wild caught and pretty
ragged looking...

Just to echo dannygood1's sentiments, I've noticed the same disparity. I surfed this site for nearly a year before picking up my green (It was probably more like 8-months). By the way, he is an awesome snake. I find myself torn between wanting him to grow up to be the adult he is going to be or enjoying the fact that he is still a juvenile and that we have a long way yet to go and to learn from each other (just like I feel with my kids). And in that time, and since I have gotten him, it seems like there are very few pictures being posted of adult captive greens.
I remember a few months ago when sombody posted asking for pictures of BIG anacondas (needing to fill some sort of craving I suppose). To accomodate, people started posting pictures giant, green, dead anacondas; strung out by a group of people or tractors. I thought the whole thing very sad. It really does make me wonder... is it that people don't get them, or do people bail on them before they reach adulthood?
Anyway, here is a couple of pictures of my green. He is still young yet, but for the next little while it's all I have.

He's getting a little bigger...

` He's a colorful little fellow. He ought to be a really good looking adult.
` What you said about enjoying him as a baby are my sentiments exactly. They are like kids, you learn a lot from them as they grow. I always miss that, when I get an older snake.

Nice pics, good looking anaconda. Mine is about a year old; couldn't get very good specs from seller about his origin. Seller said it was cb, but since it had tapeworms, now I doubt it. Mine is about 50" right now. Tame as a kitten.

Pump up your anaconda with mice, rats, chickens, rabbits, kittens, dogs, sheep and horses, then post some pics of your 25' anaconda !

See, that's what I can't figure out. Where are the adult green anacondas? Even with this posting subject, only 2 pictures were presented (thanks folks). You'd think anyone with an adult green would be very proud of it, and would like to show off pictures. I assume kingsnake.com is fairly well known by herpers, but I could be wrong.

Perhaps when they get large, they go off to zoos?

What gets me, is that I think greens have been available for about 30 years at least in the pet trade. At any given time, I can probably find 2 greens for sale on the internet. There's probably a few more. So, they're not exactly rare (nor common). It just seems like the adults somehow disappear.
Or maybe I'm crazy. Or maybe very few make it to adulthood, perhaps dying. I just think it is weird - the apparant lack of large, captive, tame greens - pictures or stories. Oh well, I guess I've beat this topic to death.

Here is a captive Adult Green.
This is not my snake. It belongs to Kelly Swift of www.swiftinverts.com
As far as I know, he has a few Adult males.

I think that's the first picture I've seen of a large, captive green anaconda. I wonder how long it is, looks about 10-15' to me. The DFR pic is cool too, but not a captive one.

dfr Feb 16, 2004 10:32 AM

` Here's another pic of a big Green I collected somewhere on the internet.

` This is NOT one of my pix. I just saved it when I saw it.

` That is obviously a big, healthy, mellow adult.

Nice one, it also looks from 10-15'. Nice to see these pics of tame captive anacondas. I'm saving these pics too as they are posted.
