Showing off my newly constructed tortoise pens

Passport Feb 15, 2004 04:41 PM

The sun shined today for the first time in a couple weeks. I decided to take a couple pics of the newly constructed pens for my tortoises. They will be planted soon and when the weather warms some will be used for my wonderful pets. The roofs attached to the fence are on hinges and can be dropped flat against the fence. There is a third pen behind the building (hard to see in pic). The building is for future heated shelter for my larger torts that can weather outside most if not all of the year. All the pens have latched gates between them which can be left opened or closed depending on who is in the pen. What do you think?

Very nice! I like those hinged sheltering roofs you have. What is the little building made of, and how big is it?

The building is brick and is a cemented over well. It is used as storage now but when I get to it will be wired, heated and used only for tortoises. It is about 6ft wide and 4ft deep. Not good for much except, I hope, perfect for the animals. I plan to cut the door bottom off and fit with plastic strips so the tortoises can use as they feel the need.

Now what you REALLY need is a few Aldabras to occupy one of those nice enclosures.

Isn't it nice to actually see the sun again? All the rain has been putting a real damper on the Mardi Gras festivities...

Now those are some beautiful and well designed pens!!
