You didn't mention the basking temps or the type of lighting or the type/bramd of UVB. It would be helpful to know those things.

Our chameleons usually come out around 10:00 am and bask until afternoon then they'll explore their enclosures, eat some leaves or crickets...whatever is around...before picking a spot to sleep.

Oh life as a chameleon seems pretty rough sometimes...

Ours actually sleep at the very bottom of the cage...right in the pothos plants (you can see in the picture...do anyone else's retreat to the lowest spot of their cage when they sleep?

My chams also go to the lowest vine at night and also choose a cluster of leaves to hide under.

Luna's basking pattern changes a bit each day. After basking she goes to sit under the dripper. As for sleep she has always slept up high. The lowest was partway down her ficus when I first moved her into her big cage but since then she's way up! Something to do with height of cage maybe?

Mine used to sleep at the bottom, usually under a big pothos leaf. But since I've been putting a cover around his cage to cut out lights, he's been sleeping at the very top. Usually in the same exact spot, facing the same way. lol If I forget to cover it and there is even a tiny bit of light, he'll be on the screen, on the door. Weird.

hmmm...I wonder if it is the covering. Luna gets covered before all of the room lights go out b/c she is in my office and I often work in the evening.

As for your's being on the door if you forget to cover he is saying "Hey! You! Yeah, you with the 'power' - either turn out the lights or cover me up!"
