baby iggy won't eat

turtle22 Feb 07, 2003 11:43 AM

i just got a three month old iggy, and he was very healty when i got him, active and clear eyed, but he hasn't eaten that i know of in four days, until i just gave him a little fruit. I had collard greens and zuchinni cut up into little pieces for him, and just a little fruit. he's still fairly active, but he's losing weight and seems dehydrated(skin becoming loose and wrinkled.) i gave in and fed him a little banana and melon today, he ate a few small pieces off my fingers, but then refused any more. i don't want to give him much fruit because it doesn't have the vitamins he needs, but he won't touch anything else. also, he has taken a few drops of water off my fingers. there is a shallow water bowl and a small waterfall in his terrerium also. any suggestions? could he just be adjusting to new surroundings, or should i take him to the vet? i've never had iguanas this young before, i'm in new territory.

Does he have the proper heat and UV lighting? A vet visit should be in order especially if he is losing weight. You should bring in a poop sample to test for parasites. If it is too cool in his cage he will not eat . Good luck. Lyn

yeah, it should be warm enough, i have a uv lamp and a thermometer set up, it's usually 85 to 95 during the day, a little cooler at night but not much. i suppose i'll just take him to the vet. i just hope he's ok.
