Another wieght question..

khalliaar Feb 15, 2004 06:24 PM

About how much should my 9 month old male bp be gaining a week? Also about how much should he weigh now? I feed him 3 adult mice a week and he is about 24 inches long. Last time I weighed him he was 270 grams(right after he ate) and he has only been fed twice after coming off of a 3 month hunger strike. I believe at the end of the strike he was about 195grams. Thanks a lot.

My 9 month ball python weighed 430 grams at 27 inches. But that's just my ball python. Their weight is highly variable. So to say how much it should weigh really can't be answered exactly. You can compare yours to the weights of others but that's all you'll know. Mine's bigger/smaller than yours.
Someone on this forum has keep records of many that he has raised. You could search the archives on this forum and find it.
What's important is that:
1) it's eating and being fed an appropriate amount
2) the temps and humidity are good
3) it's health is being monitored by a vet, as needed
4) the enclosure is clean

It is important that you look at the documentation that shows the exact weights for all of the snakes individually, not just the averages. Weights seem to be extremely variable.

I have not updated with Feb weights yet. Took the weights today, but I don't know when I'll get them posted.

Thanks for all the help. My guy has always been a little on the skinny side but I think thats because he wasn't eating to well at the petstore and they just got him eating regularily about 3 weeks before I got him. He's really starting to gain now and the growth charts gave me a lot of insight. Thanks again.

Ps- In case your wondering I got him from a pet store because I know the guy who cares for all the reptiles personally so he guarentees me health and will not let an animal go if it has not eaten by itself for a while.
