Anyone know? Temp in room is 72, glass cage with screen top. 50 gallon
Too many factors to determine, you have to just try it. What I did was go buy a few different bulbs, then return the ones I didn't use. It's the only way to be sure. (make sure the store you buy from has a good return policy)

I think same as below trial and error, get a decent digital thermometer. My 50gal has a 100w houselight over the basking spot with a couple of different levels to choose and temps are good. my other tank has a 150w floodlight and a 100w houselight over the basking spot..
I got one tank like you and a 100W on one end but the top is half glass, The other tank same size has a 160W in the middle of a solid screen top. Also one tank has light from an window that faces outside and another is against a solid wall. So many different things come into play. One thing I do is to put a Smooth river rock at the basking point to absorbe heat during the day and let it out at night. Trial and error is the name of the game because in the summer when the house is warmer you need less heat in the Beardie enclousures.
