Need help on setting up tank.

speterturtle Feb 15, 2004 06:39 PM

I'm getting a baby eastern box. need ideas on what to get and how to setup the tank.

Most of the site out there only teach you about water turtles. no land turtles.

currently have 10 gal tank. 20 gal is on the way.

you didn't say how old this turtle is.. and boxies dont do well in aquariums you should go out and buy a rubbermaide tub.

They indicated it was a hatchling. I think a tank is fine, especially for 1 baby eastern. I'm housing one in a 10 gallon tank w/ a heat bulb, a uvb, and a night light. I provide him plenty of sphagnun moss to burrow in and a water dish. He is soaked daily and the tank is sprayed down for humidity. Just remember to keep the humidity up and don't let it dry out.

Yes this is a hatchling. I have a 10gal tank with a clamp lamp with a 60watt normal light blub in there as of the moment. As for misting the tank thats no problem. I'm used to misting the tanks cause of my tree frog. Also i have 3 batches of Bed a beast. i'm thinking about getting 3 inchs of bed a beast. I just need a huge water dish...

Question. i know the water dish has to be big enough for the turtle to fit in, but does how deep of the dish matter as well?

I would make it fairly shallow, probably 3/4 of an inch. Make sure he can touch the bottom.
