Heterozygous or Homozygous?

cod6545 Feb 15, 2004 07:02 PM

Hey- as far as pricing goes, would I rather own an albino heterozygous or an albino homozygous? Which is worth more? Thanks. Brooks

HOMOZYGOUS-Having the Same(homo) alelles for a certain trait
Heterozygous-HAving different(hetero) alleles for a certain trait

Since albino is simple recessive a het. albino will appear normal, and a homo albino will apear albino.

There was an albino I was considering purchasing that the owner called Het. Is this a mistake?

If you've seen the animal and it appears albino, it was a mistake unless he meant that it was heterozygous for another trait (patternless, labarynth etc.).
