Not eating

lostkauze Feb 15, 2004 08:20 PM

My new hypo tang. i got last sunday hasnt eaten yet. She refuses the mealies, and shows no interest in pinkies or wax worms. I bought some crickets today of various sizes, and she ate 3 really small ones that i had to hold down and squeeze so they quivered. I am getting concerned. She is huge with a nice fat tail, but the skin is loose and you can tell she's lost some weight. Hopefulyl she'll eat more crix. What should i do? Could it be possible that i bought her while she was coming out of the cooling stage, and hasn't warmed up yet? She lays on the UTH during the day, and is alert and friendly, just isnt eating. Suggestions? (sp)

So you've had her a week then? And since you are offering her pinkies I'm presuming she's full grown?

I wouldn't worry too much. Older leopard geckos can take two, sometimes three weeks to start eating on their own. I would say no handling until she starts eating on her own. And keep stress to a minimum. [don't rearrange things in her cage, loud music, etc.]
Since she has shown some interest in food, that is a very positive sign. AND you say she has a good fat tail, which can store nutrients for a very long time!
Good luck.
