Unidentified snake in everglades

5hawn Feb 15, 2004 08:34 PM

Found a snake lying motionless in the water when I visited the Everglades. I assume its some type of juvenile water snake, but Im from up north so I can only guess. The pic is hard to make out, but the banding should be easily recognized by someone familiar with this species.

Not from that picture!

Could be a juv Banded Watersnake or a juv Saltmarsh Snake, but there is no way to tell from that photo I'm afraid.

The spot you photographed is identical in every possible way to a herping location from my old neighborhood. I saw many young florida banded water snakes there. This time of year is when I miss it the most.
