Temporalis locale?

Downwardspiral Feb 15, 2004 09:29 PM

A while back I took this photo at the Fox Nature Center in Atlantic County, New Jersey. It is non living and mounted. It looks to be fairly old and faded. I was wondering if Jeff or anyone else has any thoughts on a locale. To me it doesn't look to much like a NJ coastal.

Thanks,
J.D.

That looks somewhat like my Ocean Co snake. It very well could be from NJ.

What do the other temp people think?

the incomplete banding. Also, the orangish forms of temporalis are "usually"NJ.....but color alone cannot key a milksnake,Jeff

Interesting snake. No intermediates but no collar either. Given this, the color and that it is in a NJ museum that its of NJ origin is a pretty safe bet. Doesn't mean anything though.

Thanks everyone. The pattern shape on the head kind of remided me of some St.Marys that I have seen, but I was not sure. The people at the park could not tell me anything about it.

Thanks,
J.D.

Though I have seem more reduced head patterns St.Marys specimens I know that most of the captive bred lines breeders are working with dont show that representation.Lots of times the head size and shape of NJ animals lean alot towards Eastern milks too. Lastly, I think the appearance of the yellowish/green banding is more typical of that locale as well...the more southern animals usually have cleaner white/yellow bands.Jeff
