I'm hopefully getting a pair of Kimberly Rocks and have a few questions

wingert Feb 15, 2004 11:45 PM

I read that they have somewhat short lifespans or maybe just a short reproductive life. Is this true. Let me know what you can on breeding. How old are they sexually mature? I am guessing that they mature at a young age like 9-14 months. Can juvies be positively sexed? What is the average clutch size? Do I need mutiple males or females to have the best results? Any cooling or humidity changes that help with breeding or is it fairly cut and dry? Sorry for the mess of questions.
Thanks Wingert

Joe Lewis @Rear Earth inc. breeds them if you don't have a source yet he could. He has been more than helpful with my questions concerning the ackie I bought. The web site is listed under breeders/dealers. He's easy to do business with, shipment of the animal was flawless. If you have any questions about him let me know. Also, I would like to know what you find out, if you don't mind. I'm interested in those monitors as well.

Very fragile species....lone adult males will do well with time. This animal doesnt handle shipping well. Stresses out very easy. Females tend to suddenly die. Also very picky about nesting sites. If you dont get the babies to eat there first day they will most likely die. Very difficult species to bred. Anyone telling you any different is just trying to sell you something. In my opinion the best dwarf monitor!! Just a horrible breeding project. Dont know if its from the small gene pool or just that this species doesnt tolerate captivity? If you want a KRM get a lone adult male for a disply animal. This is my experience and alot of other people have also had difficulty w these guys. Dont mean to be negative but thought i would give you a warning.
