Moreno Valley

herpin1579 Feb 16, 2004 12:40 AM

Hello all,

I will be visting my grandmother during springbreak. I would really like to find some nice snakes. I know the odds are against me but it would be really nice to find some pyro's, rosies, and mitchelli. She lives right by Perris Lake.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi,
You wont find any pyros in ca. at all. They come from az. -(and into mexico, parts of utah and new mexico) but rosys are there. And you'll be there in the perfect time for them. Although I think you are not allowed to collect on lake perris campgrounds. But you can go to the foothills close to there and have luck.

Sorry, I meant zonata. Also, what other types of snakes are common?

Thanks,
Michael

Hi again,
You wonr find any zonatas either in moreno valley. You'll have to go way higher in elevation. I live in good zonata habitat in the san bernardino mtns, and its super cold here right now. But if your here in spring, like later april and early may, those are the best times to find zonata. Just make sure the sun is shining, even there is still snow on the ground, you'll find them. Just be real carefull not to mess up any rock piles. Some people just dig up a pile and leave it like that, I've personally seen it, but heard about it. Good luck with your searches. When in moreno valley though, theres a road called rche canyon road. You can crusie that till it turns inot dirt, then drive the dirt road and I've seen rosys there, red western diamond backs, gophers, and cal.kings., plus there is biog granite spiny lizards if you get out and hike around. Its a cool place to herp.
