Enclosure Size, Please Respond

ShadyLady Feb 16, 2004 08:35 AM

I posted this question on another board and was ignored, so hoping you all will respond.

I have 3 kingsnakes. Two S. Fla. 'brooksi' and one E. King. They are '03 models. The Eastern is growing very fast, is almost 30 inches now. He eats anything thrown his way.

I need to know what size enclosure to plan for for when they are adults.

Also wondering, for those of you who have multiple kings, how do you house them?

I really love these guys and plan to get more. Mostly interested in native Florida types. I'm in N. Fla.

Thanks for responding.

Amy C.

I will speak in terms of glass aqauriums. An adult Eastern or Florida king will need something like a 40 breeder which is 36" X 18" . If the Kings you have get closer to 6' then go with something bigger like a 75 gallon which is 48" X 18" I think. I think when they start getting real big you are better off building your own cage.

Thanks, so much. This is just what I needed to hear. I guess if you have lots of big kings, you have a whole lot of area devoted to caging.

And I realized I accidentally overstated my Eastern's size. He's in a 10 gal. and stretches around two sides. Not exactly 30 inches. Oops!
