Hey everyone,
Do adult male black pines have visible bulges from their hemipenes?
The snake I saw was all of 5' and probably closer to 6 in a private collection. I didn't have any probing equipment with me, so I couldn't say for sure if it was a female with unidentified bulges or a normal male.
The bulges began immediately after the cloacal opening and were semetrical down the tail. The bulges were probably a little more than one inch long and maybe just shy of one inch thick. The rest of the tail was pretty long.
This is part of a group purchase that hasn't been made yet. If it is a female with a possible medical problem, I'd get it checked out and add it to make a 1.2 collection. If it is a male, I could probably use the space.
If anyone could share any experience, I would appreciate it. My two black pines are just babies and I've never seen adults quite that big.
Later,
Dave
