Incubation Time and Female Weight

BeardieKid14 Jun 08, 2003 11:52 PM

As my last story states I had two eggs that were laid today and I am incubating them between 80-85F. How many days until they would be expected to hatch?

My second question is what should a females weight be to breed? I have heard 40grams but then others say 60 grams. I have a female that is 24g and is growing at 3 grams a week so I was just wondering when she would be ready to breed?

Thanks,
Adam Hallquist

incubation time can be anywhere from 40 to even 70 days. the safest weight for breeding is 50, but sometimes 40g female will do good. but why take the chance.

I incubate most of my eggs at a consistant 82 degrees, and it takes between 55 and 60 days for them to hatch. At 80-85 degrees, I would start checking the incubator several times a day around day 50.

I agree with iluvblackfrancis about weight. 40 grams is the bear minimum. Anything below that is detrimental to the mother's health. I personally wait until a female is at least 50 grams before breeding her. Making eggs is hard work, and the healthier the mother, the healthier the babies.

Good luck!!
