There are many types of mites out there. If you ask me there is no good mite but a dead mite haha

The snake mite you refer to is commonly called a snake mite but its real name is Ophionyssus natricus. That being said simply calling it a snake mite is mis leading better name would be a reptile mite.

It can be found on any reptiles feeding, not just snakes. There are also many types of mites out there countless numbers so I cannot go through them all. But it only takes a little search on the web to find info. on mites.

I had thought my answer above was good and simple enough. But I guess like the mite some of you are blood thirsty haha

So yes mites can harm other living creatures then snakes and yes monitors would be one of them.

Now I hope that clears it up good enough for you. If not please just run a search on the common reptilian mites.

Just to add to J's post. I've had mites on my snakes that have I have also observed on my monitors. I have found them in both snake and monitor bowls as well. Get yourself a can or 2 of "Black Knight", and nothing else. It is extremely effective and way easier than any other method I've ever used to kill mites. Make sure you run a search on how to use it properly. You can also check out the VPI site. They have a section there entitled "War on Mites" which is detailed. Hopefully the other J will stop whining now.
