Switch to revers osmosis or distilled water. No minerals in either of those. No build up on the glass. No cleanup.

Yeah I second that... Mineral concentration in drinking water can vary by location and water quailty, but if your drining water is anything like mine, its probably (from the looks of my aquarium) 50% mineral! Since the water dissolves, the minerals deposit on the glass and stay behind, and its a headache to clean (which im sure you already know). I switched to distilled water and its been working great so far, too. Although its may seem like a costlier option, it can in fact be quite cheap. Many stores sell water distillers, and a search on ebay can always ring up good deals: http://search.ebay.com/ws/search/SaleSearch?from=R8&ht=1&satitle=water distiller&sokeywordredirect=1&sosortproperty=3&sosortorder=1

The other guys are right about the kind of water to use but you can use diluted white vinegar to clean it without harming the animals and plants in the tank until until you start using distilled water. Make sure you do it often though or the only way to get the minerals off is with CLR. NOT so good for the critters!!! Good luck!
