Coral Albino......aka Banana Ball

designersnakes Feb 16, 2004 01:21 PM

I thought I would post some recent pix of this girl even though she just started a shed cycle. She still looks unreal even when she is in shed. Her black flecking has increased with age and only occurs in the purple areas or where a normal balls black would be, but there is nothing normal about this girl. This morph is of course my favorite with out a doubt and I can't wait to produce her likeness. How can you not appreciate what nature has done with her. She is also het for Clown and I think that a Coral Clown will be an unbleievable combination. I will post more pix after she sheds in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for looking,

Jack

That is a beauty.
Can you give a little background on her?
Was that produced by you?
What a project.

breed a spider to a clown this season, then hopefully you will produce a male spider het for clown. Now by the time the coral female is ready to breed so will your spider het clown male. You can produce coral clowns, coral spiders, coral clown spiders, all kinds of stuff..

Great snake, good luck

First off that snake is absolutely gorgeous...
Are they the same thing as NERD's Coral Glow or is it different line and not compatible or what? I just can't wait until these will be more available.

caramel albino? This is where the black flecks come from, the whitesmoke. At least when I held the Nerd Caramel Glo that was the case. Where did the Banana thing come from?
Or is this something of lesser genetics? And if that is the case please explain the flecking. Thanks so much Jack.

Banana and the white smoke are the sam, as is the Coral albino.

This animal was produced by breeding a clown to a "banana"

Pythagoras Feb 16, 2004 11:12 PM

SHE is right. The Coral Glow is a "cross" morph that comes from a breeding with a Whitesmoke. They are not the same morph, but Whitesmoke is necessary for creating a CG.

If i am not mistaken............the Coral Glow, Bananna, & WHite SMoke ALbino are all the same thing.

Kevin aquired the very first example of this morph and coined it the "Whitesmoke Albino".......

Then the Banana was imported

Then Kevin produced the first "Coral Glow" a.k.a. the baby WHiteSmoke....

Then the baby banana het clown was produced.

THis is the SAME MORPH with 3 different names depending on which stage of its life it is in.......

Hope this helps some....

I'm not sure, so I could definitely be wrong. It looks like Coral Glow is either a cross with a Whitesmoke and something else, or a "Super" form of Whitesmoke....but I'm pretty sure that Whitesmoke is recessive. The two mutations are somehow related, but look at the pictures....they clearly are not the same morph:

The White Smoke, Coral Glow, Coral Albino aka Banana are all the same morph. The White Smoke, who was a fairly older animal and quite faded, produced the Coral Glows. There is no cross morph there. Just straight domination. But just like faded Albinos and high contrast Albinos so to are there different levels of contrast with the Coral Albinos. I have seen low contrast Albinos produce high contrast and vice versa. I have seen Nerds animals in person as well as the mother to my Coral Albino and I can attest to them being somewhat higher contrast than Nerds.

JaredHorenstein Feb 17, 2004 03:11 AM

Thanks for backing that up with the facts........

In my opinion.....if its worth anything to anyone is that the whitesmoke/banana/coral glow is similar to a clown in that it is a color mutation that goes thru a "metamorphoses" or change so to speak......clowns are born very brightly colored...and as they age they begin to change......until the whitesmoke it was the only morph that did this......but now we are seeing anotherone and it going thru a bigger change....

I am pretty sure most all the bananas/coral glows will eventually end up like the original whitesmoke.

Have any of the Bannanas /coral glows or white smokes been crosed with each other. I would think that this would have to happen in order to prove whether they are the same mutation. We have seen with the Axanthics--VPI/Sutherland/Jolliff line that they look similar but are not compatable. It really does not matter because no mater what you call them they are awsome.

Good luck with them.

I think they are both so new that they haven't even been backcrossed in their own lines yet (maybe both working on it for this year). This is why we don't yet know if either or both are co-dominant or completely dominant yet.

I'm thinking that determining compatibility between similar looking "some sort of dominant" mutations will be rather difficult. With recessive mutations you would expect to get either all normals when crossing two homozygous animals if the genes aren't compatible and all mutants if they are. With co-dominants it gets a little trickier, especially if the homozygous form isn't radically different than the heterozygous. For example, looking at the pewter pastel we still don't know if cinnamon pastel and pastel jungle are alleles (different mutation of the same gene) or completely different genes that just happen to have a neat combined effect. Maybe after the homozygous cinnamon is produced so we can see what it looks like and noting the percentages of offspring types from various crosses we can make a pretty good guess on how the two might relate.

So, if the homozygous banana and homozygous white smoke end up looking a lot different than the heterozygous versions and the two homozygous versions crossed to each other breed true and so do their offsring then I guess we will eventually be able to say they are the same with some confidence. The first few crosses between the heterozygous versions may not answer many questions for sure.

cunninghamselaphe Feb 17, 2004 12:05 PM

Randy-- I agree its to early to tell, since no crosses have occured. How can people say that they are the same? Maybe they are maybe there not. Untill there is more breeding etc. There is no way of knowing. They are all great looking snakes with different names that should stay that way untill there is proof that they are the same.

When you pick out 2 Fugi Apples from the same bin. Would you question if they are indeed both Fugis or would you wait until you plant their seeds and have them pollinate each other to prove it. Appearances are a great way to dicipher what is what. Both have proven to be dominate and they have the same characteristics to a tee. Their coloration is the same to include increased flecking with age. There is no question that these animals are the same morph. I'll put money on it....that's how people can call them the same.

RandyRemington Feb 17, 2004 05:26 PM

I tend to think that the same morph might vary a lot (just like normals do) and people may tend to insist on things being different morphs for pride's sake. However, I really don't have any way to know if banana and coral glow and white smoke are the same or not. My point was more along the lines of the general question "how the heck are we going to breed to test if dominant morphs are the same?".

I guess the best I can come up with is to breed the two dominant lines together and then breed the suspected double morphs to a bunch of normals and see if you ever get a normal or not. It's messy (what if you just never picked a double morph baby or just lucked out and didn't get any normals when you could have) but eventually we should be able to figure out if two dominant mutations are the on the same gene even if we will not be sure they are the exact same mutation or not.

rustys-balls Feb 17, 2004 09:49 PM

I think the genetic mess has only begun with the balls, ooohhh its going to be soooo fun. How about someone talk Will into posting a pic of mom,at what 3to4 years she should have started to fade. Would it be funny if the whitesmoke was like another platty project. A touch of simple recessive with a sprinke of dominate, maybe it will produce lucys too. How ever or what ever it should be a sweeeet cross with the clown. What if its sex linked? are there any boys????

VoiceOfTruth Feb 17, 2004 12:48 AM

That really is a beautiful animal and you have every right to be proud. How are the ones that Will kept doing? Or does Whitefeather have them now? I remember you offering to pay me for being an even bigger ass then I already am and I'm STILL waiting for my check.... Still putting pictures of dead snakes on your website? you really should join in on the Leucy love fest thats going on up above... did I earn my money yet? (for being an ass that is) serious though. You have a lot of really beautiful animals and it's apparent that they are well taken care of (except for the dead one) and you have every right to be proud. Congratulations on the corals.

All the best to you in your future efforts...

Sometimes the dead leave behind an army!! What looks best on a piece of white canvas....that's right some paint. Oh but we're talking about snakes and not works of art. You know how I feel about the white snake and what you can do with it or can't. Have you made my daddy yet???? You know I still wouldn't mind buying an animal or two from you but my price would have to be less than anyone else pays. Long live Snoop!!

VoiceOfTruth Feb 23, 2004 11:05 PM

But Wrong. I'm much prettier then R. Thanks for playing anyway.
