Questions About Leopard Frogs

jdlyk Feb 16, 2004 02:07 PM

Hi fellow herp lovers. I just wanted to ask a few questions about the leopard frog(rana pipeins, not sure if I spelled that quite right.) I would like to know about their housing, diet and overall care. I would also like to know where I could get my hands on some. If you could give me links to any care sheets that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Leopard frogs are not hard to keep. I have one now that I got about two years ago, and she's still going strong. My setup is a 30-gallon long tank, with several large flat river rocks set up to form a land area. I put about an inch of coc fiber bedding on top of this to absorb liquid and make a nicer sitting area for the frog. There are a few inches of water in the tank, which I siphon and refill every few days.
Here is a pic of Rayna. She is a plains leopard frog. I got her awhile ago at a local pet store. Depending on where you live, you may be able to catch a wild one come Spring.
