Here we have a Russian egg which is 4 days overdue.
Since this egg was showing signs of "cracking" several days ago (hence a blob to the RHS of the egg) but had ceased to actually hatch, I decided to carfull try to help it.

Before I start this story, please do not attempt this at home, especially if you've never tried this before. Not a process for the faint hearted.

With very carefull & nimble fingers, I started "chipping" at the shell.
I was able to open up the hard outer shell to reveal the inner membrane (showing the blood vessels)& carefully proceeded to enlarge the area till I had exposed what you see in the pic.

Now I wouldn't have thought much about this process untill to my amazement the little Russian's eye's opened & closed serveral times whilst I was watching him.

At this moment he's still tucked up in his watery world looking every bit a survivor.
We'll see what tomorrow brings.
