Are These Temps Good?

Chuck420 Feb 16, 2004 03:14 PM

hi i am going to be picking up my first BP soon and i was wondering if these temps are ok for him...his warm side is 86-89 and inside his hide it is 92 and the cool is 78-82...humidity without misting during the day stays around 40-50 but i am thinking about providing a humid hide if he will use it, and misting the cage in the morning and when the lights go off just to be safe...if this sounds ok please let me know and if not tell me what i need to change...thanks for the help i am hopefully picking him up tomorrow and will get some pics asap thanks

Sounds OK to me. Personally I would definately try to provide a 2nd hide as the 92 may be a little high. Just try and give him a variation which it sounds like you have and the little guy should show you what he prefers e.g. if he 'hugs' the warmer side it may be a little cool overall and vice versa.

It sounds good, Chuck, but for two things: first, it sounds like you only have a hide on the warm side. There should be one on the cool side as well. Second, try placing the water dish on the hot side and see if that boosts your humidity enough. If not, if you are using a screen top, try covering the screen with anything not absorbent (duct tape -- sticky side away from the snake, saran wrap, plastic dropsheet, foil, whatever works for you). There's nothing wrong with misting but it takes more effort to keep up than an environmentally managed solution.
