Too small for 2?
IMO it's too small for one.....unless they are a smaller dragon and a more sedentary one.....minimum for one should be 48" x 18" x 18".....but bigger is even better.....6 square ft of floor space for one, 2 sq feet more for second beardie....but bigger is better, these are the minimums.

So do you feel that my 48x16x16 tank is inadequate for a BD?
48 x 16 x 16 is about the same as a 48 x 18 x 18, so it should be ok....the standard 50 gallon is 36 x 18 x 18 and that's too short unless you have a small dragon, under 16 inches with full tail or a very, very sedentary dragon which isn't the norm.

Yours by gallon conversion is a 55 gallon...a 40 breeder is 36 x 16 x 16 a 50 breeder is 36 x 18 x 18.....just to emphasize, what you really look for is floor space....6 sq ft minimum for 1 adult beardie....yours is a touch short which should be fine if you don't have a very large dragon.....gallons are really unimportant as you can have a larger tank like 24 x 24 x 48 tall tank which is unsuitable though it's 120 gallon.

Ok, now i'm a little confused on dimensions and names. I thought a 40b was 48x18x16 and a 50 std was 36x18x18.
Actually, 40 breeder, of which I have several are 36 x 16 x 16.....50 breeder which I have a couple are 36 x 18 x 18....I use them for my sub-adults. I have 2 55 gallons also, they are 48 x 13 x 20.....that's why I say, concertrate on floor space, not gallons.....they are many spaces that equal the same gallon space but may or may not be appropriate, like the 55 I mentioned, it's not wide enough though the gallons would say it was ok. I use them for other reptiles, not beardies.

also, dragons are typically, active, curious creatures who like to explore, so IMO, bigger is better.
