Background is in on the custom tank

kyle1745 Feb 16, 2004 06:34 PM

Ok I got the background in, and dry. Just a matter of the substrate, and the plants.
I have a couple small spots to cover, but nothing big. Just a thing I noticed on my second use of weldbond is that it dries much better if put on wet. I had much better luck this time, and it dried much faster, but I still plan to let it sit for a couple more days.

It is also hard to tell but it is not flat, but has a small bump that should allow me to put broms off to each side.

When adding the eco earth to the mix I left it more soupy, and it seems to dry faster and harder than it did when I made it more lumpy. This tank is dried almost like rock. Very tough it seems.

did you add more water to the weldbond? or just more weldbond/water mix to the eco earth?

It is a HEAVY DUTY glue that some people mix with substrate to make a dirtlike, natural looking background. It dries very hard and non-toxic which makes it a good choise. You can check it out at acehardware.com or yankeeharvest.com

I do 2:1 water:weldbond, then add in eco earth until it is soaked.

cool, hopefully I can start the background on my 29 tomorrow. I am waiting on my pump and heater. It will be a mix of cork and coco.
