$100 bucks?

That's crazy talk...we built 5 like the ones below for under $50 canadian...so mabye 30 american....but I'm glad you're excited...maybe next time you should try building one and save yourself the $70...the 70 bucks would cover the plant costs and food costs for a month or so.

well, I bought all the stuff to make it, but the it called for a miter saw, and I have NO tools, my dad knows hard drives, not hammers, anyways, the cage for 100 will be very nice and deluxe, and how do you set up a dripper system
ALSO I was going to buy a humidifier, from walgreens a cool mist humidifier for 20 bucks, do you guys think this is a good idea

I'd just mist them...a couple times a day...way easier and saves you money.

I build my own enclosures, and i have got a new plan for 2 new ones for some new females i am getting. The first one i built was from scratch and with scavenged lumber. I called the hardware store about the lumber i would need and the screen, and they said it would be under 35$ canadian.

Congrats! You sound excited! Also, good job on getting the setup and supplies first, not everyone does that. Scales is a good place to buy from. They have good prices and ship fast. Drippers just consist of a container with an aquarium air valve on the bottom you can adjust to make it drip at the right speed. You'll figure it out quick. I would recommend against building your cage unless you need a really big one. If you can, just buy one and keep it simple, neat, good looking, cricketproof and easy to clean. In the long run it's worth it. I've build several and bought several and I've learned from my mistakes lol. For the humidifier, I use a ultrasonic one, which shoots out a visible mist, kinda cool looking and works good. Set it up on a timer so it comes on and off during the day otherwise you'll have to refill it often. Also, they take a while of running before you'll notice an increase in humidity in a normal sized room. Good luck and welcome to the forum!

What do you put under the dripper, the leaves? or a bowl? and do you just put your humidifier on top of the cage and let it flow down

TylerStewart Feb 17, 2004 08:36 PM

I drip water into the plants which have a saucer under them (attatched to their pot) then if I need to, just drain the plant base. If you have a few plants in there and drip into a different plant each time, they don't need to be drained much. I just run my humidifier in the room they're in. If you've only got one cage, stick it next to the cage, but make sure water won't build up on anything electrical.
