Food and size?

turtlemoon Feb 16, 2004 09:42 PM

I have two baby RES (a bit bigger than a quarter) and I was wondering how much I should feed them. I feed them reptomin baby and they each get about 6 sticks per day. Is this too much? I keep reading that I should only feed them an amount the size of their head but their heads are so small!!! I also feed them lettuce and little bits of carrots. I don't want my babies to grow too fast...which brings me to my next question - How many inches a year should a RES grow? I know this is a hard question to answer because it depends on the sex and the food and the lighting...but approximately? I got them last month and one already seems to be bigger. Thanks!

I know their heads are tiny....but that means they have tiny tummys too! It is hard to resist the temptation to overfeed....especially because they are such beggers! Don't be afraid to mix in a little lean protein as a treat to....they need more protein as babies anyway.

I would say about an inch a year, give or take. Much more than that are your turtle is probably growing a bit too fast than might be healthy.
