metabolic bone disease in frillies

bncboids Feb 16, 2004 10:28 PM

i have an adult male frilled who has shown some downright strange behavior. he semms to not use his right front leg... at all. i first thought it was MBD, however, after speaking to his original owner, apparently he has had this "condition" for quite some time. there is no evidence of MBD at all. this "condition" appears to have come out of nowhere, and doesn't really seem to affect him in any way, except for the fact that he can't walk a straight line. so my question is, has anyone ever seen anything of this nature? is it correctable? any insight will be greatly appreciated.

That sounds very strange. Do you think the leg is broken? I'm confused about it being a condition that comes and goes.
Any more info?

this condition does not come and go, it came and never left. x-rays show no evidence of any fracture. since MBD was suspected, he was given daily oral doses of neocalgluten and after six weeks of treatment, no change was observed. he is otherwise an extremely healthy animal. he has an excellent appetite and is never sluggish or lethargic in any way. i am not very concerned for his health, i just find it very curious and was hoping someone had a similar experience

Sorry, I was confused by the original wording.
I dont know...an old injury, a deformity? Never heard of/seen it before!

i wouldn't worry about it too much if it is eating well and doesn't just lay around all of the time. i just noticed something like that on one of my crested geckos yesterday, one leg is slightly swollen and the gecko doesn't use it as much as the others. it is eating well and apparently nothing you can really do about it. just keep a close eye on it.
