The great debate on subtrate- sort of

mngrivera Feb 16, 2004 10:48 PM

Well this is whats going on. I am converting an entertainment center into a custom cage. The floor of the cage will be cement with a hide away on the right and what we are trying to do is have a basking ledge on the left side of the cage with a lit sandbox underneath. With so many concerns over beardies getting inpacted what do you think on having a sandbox seperate from the eating area of the cage? I have a cricket free beardie coming Thursday so crickets will be no where near my home unless you count the one outside I am thinking of putting in bran so any opinions on either would be great. With all areas seperate what real chance is there for a problem? Good or bad- bring it on- I'm here trying to make a discision and I tell you- there is no better place to get input than here

Thanks!!
Gabby

I have a seperate digging box filled with wheat bran and have never had a problem. I don't have one for my little beardie 12" but I do for my big guy 18".

I've used wheat bran over my entire enclosure for just over three months now and it's worked out perfectly. Lightweight, easy to clean, doesn't mold, no smell, and it's cheap. Great stuff.

Well, you already got my opinion, but will post it anyway lol

Since this dragon is one of my babies and they have never seen sand at all, I would think he would be very curious about it and try to taste it over and over again. If you must use a digging box, I would suggest the bran

Got the shipping box ready and he will be leaving here about 5:30 Wednesday Drop me a line once he gets there!!!!

Thanks! Can't wait to get him here. I'll let you know when he does get here.

On the matter of the box- I was hoping for it to be an excerise option for him since I hear so much of their borrowing instinct. But believe me- either way I will make his health first with me. I just like to hear what everyone else is doing and works for them before I go and attempt anything There is so much info out there and believe me- I love that I found this site before I got my first one.
