Action shot ** Goblet Gobbling

eve Feb 16, 2004 11:13 PM

I know it was not a week since the last pic, not until Thurs, hehehe but I was playing with my camera tonight.

Its alittle blurry because he was moving the whole time.

I took Goblet out and sat him on a big rock in the reptile room and handed him a superworm.

I clicked as fast as I could, and only caught the tail end of the worm, Dang he was FAST !!!

I remember when Boingo (my own pixie) was that age! It was only four months ago, and he measures 4 inches now. Good grief they grow like crazy...

Thanks, would love to see his size and what he looks like older!

I didn't even think of posting a pic. I don't have a digi cam, but I can borrow one. I'll post some pics when I get some...

is that the "giant" pyxie a.k.a. Pyxicephalus adspersus? how do you tell the difference between the two species of pyxies? how big must they be before you can sex them? or is there a throat color for each species for example?

snakeguy88 Feb 17, 2004 03:34 PM

That is adspersus. The two species can generally be discerned by pattern and texture. Edulis retain their juvenile blotches and the white on the typanum. Edulis also have ridges that are more like long dorsalateral lines, where as adspersus have the large lumps when older. Adspersus should turn to olive greenish (there is some room for variation in color though) between 2 and 4 inches or so. Edulis have a long snout as well and max out at only around 5 inches in males and smaller in females. As for sexing, if it croaks and gets above 6 inches, I would say male. If it does not croak and only stays from around 4-5, then I would say female.
