I don't see the question you're begging for a response to. If you like, though, I'm excellent at making up plausible sounding advice.

The number of responses will depend on the intelligence of the question, how it is worded and the amount of controversy [or lack of] regarding the answer.

I dont believe he is refering to a question being answered, but rather "why arent more people responding to his posts?"

i just mean that i see what im assuming is alot of novices since the questions seem pretty basic, but yet they go unanswered. there are at least 3 or 4 posts "feedermouse" had 1 i thnk where the question isnt answered. Im not [bleep]in, itd just be cool cuz these people obviosly took their question serious enough to bother to post it, and i know their are at least a few of you who know whats up. I come to this forum to gain knowledge of these animals and learn from the experience of others. Im not pointing any fingers or badmouthing the forum or anyone using it, im just saying it would be better if the posts were more in-depth (for lack of a better description) and supportive ofus keepers who are trying to slog thru the basic issues im sure many of you have "been there and dealt with". Happy posting, Jay.
I am a novice myself, but try to think when I am posting about whether I can find the info I need in the archives or by doing research either on the internet or by reading books. I have had reptiles a few years now (so I am still a novice) but have only had my monitors a little over 4 months. When I am reading other forums about other reptile species I have, I find myself ignoring some of the same type of posts I have seen over and over again, especially when the answers to these posts can be found in the most basic research about the particular animals. I think the post that I would most ignore is "which species do you think I should get?" If individuals research the animals they are interested in, I don't think asking for personal experiences within one or two species they have selected is bad. One long time very experienced breeder has said more than once on this forum if you can't make the basic decision as to which monitor to get, how are you going to make decisions on their care. I think this is part of the reason so many very basic questions go unanswered. There is a wealth of information and long time experience on this forum. I read it every single day and usually come away with something new. Many of the most experienced breeders/keepers simply do not have the time to answer real basics. I hope you find what you are looking for and that you will keep reading this forum, in the long run you won't be sorry you did. Good luck!

Archives... Search.... Two simple steps and they would have their answer.
Or at least spell check, and put some punctuation in, perhaps (god forbid) use proper capitalization. Intelligent posts are answered much more often than teen inspired AOLese. And people that have done footwork and really need just a little bit of help will get it, maybe not the first time, but eventually.

wel put raw bert but i dont c wot u meen bye AOLese so wot do u meen can u esplane pleez sum o us dont no wot u meen
lol
and yet dk ends his post with "lol" the first aolese term ever, and probably the most annoying. As far as punctuation, im posting on a kingsnake forum, not writing a harvard term paper. Or is it "H"arvard. All i was saying was that people who are new to the forum and new to the hobby may not be as kingsnake-savvy, and may not realize many of the topics already covered in archived strings. Like the snakemite affecting monitors question that feedermouse posted which thus far has gone unanswered. I see your gripe with the "what monitor should i buy" B.S., but punctuation or not, some of the unanswered stuff is at least half-intelligent. I guess my point is that if people can post about why they dont post, why dont they just answer someone if the know about what the person is asking. If i knew, id do it. Sorry to have annoyed you to the point where you actaully had to take 5 mins to login and [bleep] about it. Next time maybe we can piss you off enough to offer some knowledge instead of your holier-than-thou i-can-type-nicer-than-you crap. I agree people should try to actually LOOK for their answer, but to many, this IS the place to look. i love you rob
Using your own logic, the time you spent composing your post could have been better spent searching the archives for whatever information you were after in the first place.
A lot of newbie questions do get answered on this forum and I think that is just as important as the number that don't. After a while people get tired of answering the same question when the answer is just a few posts down, the last time someone asked. Sometimes people don't know the answer and don't want to lead anyone astray by posting a guess.
dk where is the snakemite question answered anywhere on this forum?
I was honestly wondering about that one myself. Never had a lizard with mites, personally, and none of my lizards have gotten 'infected' in my brief bouts with snake mites. Given that is was also posted, unanswered, in another forum, it might be that very few people know the answer.

I feel retarded telling you this, but it was already there. Now its in more detail so you dont have to figure it out.
as I said, sometimes people don't have the time, sometimes they just don't know. Sometimes it is the way the question was worded.
I don't know if snake mites (which are fairly host specific) bother monitors, but I know monitors don't usually have problems with mites, mainly because they don't have overlapping scales. That wouldn't have answered his question, which was about snake mites, and I wasn't going to hazard a guess.
If he'd said his monitor already had snake mites, he'd know the answer to his question. If he said he had a snake with mites and was worried about the monitor getting them, everyone would have said keep the two well apart, just in case. Hardly rocket science. Because he'd asked if monitors can get snake mites, perhaps others didn't know for sure if they can or can't and didn't want to hazard a guess.
I answered it twice. Did I forget to answer something????
hmmm maybe if you have a more specific question on it you can ask it down there and I will try to help. Or you can do a simple search on reptile mites.
Maybe i should of said mites dont typically go for monitors cause they have thick skin and no scales to get under? or that on monitors they are typically down on the cloaca? does that help?????
i don't know, simple really. If you wanted to know can c.collaris get snake mites then yes, that i do know, but as for monitors i havent a clue.

A lot of the questions asked have been asked hundreds of times and are covered in the archives. The experienced keepers loose interest in answering the same questions over and over, please search the archives and othe web sites for basic information, it is readily available.

You do know that no one is paid to respond to any of these questions. It really does not matter if your new or not, or the questions is basic or not. No one has a responsibility to respond either.
Replies are a gift to the person who asks the question. If you like the gift then say thank you, if you do not recieve a gift, why do you whine???????
I say replies, not answers for a reason. I say that because, answers can only come from applying the information recieved to your monitors and then getting answers from those results.
Good Luck FR
Well guys......i appreciate all who responded. You have renewed my faith that there are a good number of people who monitor(no pun intended) this forum. I wasnt so much putting this point out there for me, but really for all of us who want to know more. I have been working with my first monitor, my baby argus, and so far it has been a good experience. He did bite me once, kind of a little "leave me be" nip, but aside from that just the usual huffy-puffy pissy stuff. One thing i learned from this posting string is that all of us newbies need to do our homework on our particular subject b4 we come here and post questions that are easily answered through basic research. Thanks again everyone, and rob, i really hope no hard feelings. we should all be on the same team. dont hate me cuz i type like a 4 year old. hate me because im 23 and moderately successful with a bad attitude

You wanted to know why people don't respond, I answered. I was talking about the majority of posts that don't get replies, not you or even feedermouse. If I knew this thread was just about you or a specific thread, I probably wouldn't have responded at all.
--Robert
its not about me, bobby, its about a seeming majority of newbies in here. All messing around aside, i dont want to start trouble, or come off as a dik, i think good points were made and i since have tried to do more research on argus rather than just posting my question up here as a first-off.
those sorts of posts should come with a warning
