Ghost color question...

mmfrankford Feb 17, 2004 07:26 AM

I was looking at the ghosts that have pics on this forum and comparing it to my ghost. I noticed some are mostly grey head to tail with yellow on the chin and belly. While others like mine have grey bodies with the front portion of the body turning more a pastel color. Does this mean that ghosts can have different combination of genes making up their colors? Is there only one gene combination that makes ghosts or are there several unrelated? OK I hope this made any sense.

As far as I know the only combination for a ghost is Anery A x Hypo. This is basicaly a aney with reduced black. The tricky part is the amount of yellow that shows up. There can be a lot of color variation in these snakes. I personaly don't like a lot of yellow in the ghost, but I'm sure others love it. It sounds to me like you have a really nice one. Jim

I never really thought about it before, but wouldn't the different hypo genes maybe cause the different "colors" of ghosts?

Hypo still confuses me....But there are 3 known different types of hypo right? Does anyone have all 3 types in their collection? This could be a good little experiment if it hasn't already been done. To compare ghost babies that we "know" have different hypo genes in them.

Hypomelanism confuses me too. I'm really surprised we have't seen Hypo a b or c yet. Another thing that also confuses me is the natural tendecy of hypo that some motleys show. Yet another form of hypo that we don't quite understand as of yet. I guess we'll be seeing some really great looking ghosts out there soon. Oh man, now Ive gotta get me one of those too! Aint it fun. Just thought I'd use this oppertunity to post this old pic of my little mot. This has nothing to do with the original post but I just love the way this little girl has no black except for the eyes.

I'll have to post a pick of my ghost. As soon as I figure out how.
LOL Funny how you count a freezer of mice and rats in your list of critters.

My mouse man just delivered 300 mice on monday. I gotta count them too! My little ones ought to be set for a while. I didn't stock up on rats. That gives me an excuse to go to the next show in March. Thats a nice looking snake you got there. I'm slowly building up my collection, and hope to add a ghost soon.

That's OK. I've had a long day at work. And I get to look forward to doing a thorough cleaning of said charges cages tonight. Blaah...
By the way your name you use, cowtownherper. You wouldn't live in Columbus, Ohio would you? I know they call this city cowtown.

cowtownherper Feb 18, 2004 04:30 PM

Nope, Cowtown Texas. Fort Worth to be exact. Believe it or not they still run a herd of long horns through the streets in the stock yards every day. Right past Billy Bobs. The tourists get a big kick out of it. I've never seen it, but Ive only lived here for 26 years. Have fun with those tanks.
