Jesus ... I bet he felt that one in the morning.
Being young and stupid once (now I'm old and merely slow
) I can understand why some folks free-handle hot snakes. I had a 2' Canebrake I raised from a baby and he was so calm and used to me that I'd often do stupid things like letting him crawl around in my hands and up my arms. Never near the face, though.
But I was never ... ever ... bold enough to do this with the juvenile gaboon I kept for a while, nor with the adult Canebrakes (one did eventually get me though). I've seen pictures of at least two people on the net free-handling Gaboons and Cobras that I assume were not venomoid animals.
