Dear friends,
I had two Spilotes pullatus which carried moderate to heavy loads of coccidia.
One specimen had Caryospora, the other had Eimeria.
At first I tried with the conventional doses of Clazuril 5mg/kg.
Once a week for three weeks.
Without success.
Then I tried five days with sulfa-drugs, oral (Bactrim 50 mg/kg).
Without success: fecals were still positive.
Then again with Clazuril, at first 5 mg/kg.
One animal had (and I was surprised of this !) negative fecals.
With the other animal(which had Eimeria) I tried again Clazuril, but at the dosage of 10 mg/kg, once daily, two days without therapy, and then again once; and then I added, after two days without therapy, a dose of Toltrazuril at 25 mg/kg.
Now its fecals are negative ! Wow!
I will give Toltrazuril once again in a week.
These drugs are without side effects, eradicate the parasite and are not so disruptive for the animal as a, for instance, 8 day long therapy with sulfa drugs.
