Glass lids...

justin m Feb 17, 2004 08:26 AM

I know they are a good idea to have because they keep the humidity up, but I notice that when I open the top of my aquarium lid to mist the lil guys, it is very humid and kinda hot. Wouldn't a glass lid make it too hot and humid? How can this be avoided? Also, if not, where do you get them or do you have to cut them yourself? Is there a cheap place to find cuts of glass?

Not sure about how hot it makes your tank but the added humidity is always a plus. If it does get too hot you can put pc fans on the top by simply drilling some holes in the lid and mounting the fan...this will also help cut down on condensation so you can see into the tank better. I get my glass lids from a local pet shop for a 10 or 15 high it was like $7 but you can also cut them yourself. I just don't want to deal with the hassel of cuttign glass right now.

Yes I know the hassle...I do stained glass(so i have all the tools, so that isn't a big deal) But I also know how much glass costs so was just wondering.

I just recently lost a frog because he escaped some how and don't want to lose my other this way. Glass tops seem escape proof...but I bet these little Kienevals(sp) could pull one on me none-the-less.

About the computer fans now...
Most of them don't come with a power supply do they? Do you have any good information on hooking them up since I am not the electrician that I would like to be.

I use normal aquarium lids, and then seal the back half with silicon, so only way an escape could happen would be to leave the lid open.
