disinfecting stuff

esara Jun 09, 2003 07:09 AM

Hi!
I'm getting a larger cage for my maroccan. I was wondering how to disinfect bits of wood and that kind of thing before putting it in her new cage. I've heard that rocks can be baked in the oven to get rid of bacteria and that kind of thing.
Also, my uro is quite stressed out still because of her shedding, (I hope - see earlier thread). The white stuff on her nose is still not gone, by the way. I'm going to take a fecal to the vet as soon as possible. Anyhow, is it a good idea to put her in a new cage when she is a bit stressed out? A new environment I guess would add to the stress. Should I wait?

Sara

i have heard for wood that you can freeze it over night, which will kill mites, parasites and stuff, to just clean wood i would just do hot water and a towel. For my rocks i normally soak them in hot water then scub them off with a bristle brush or towel. Good luck

I baked a branch in the oven before putting it in. Everything else I washed with antibacterial soap and hot water. But you have to really really really rinse it off well, the soap isn't good.
