Superworm Breeding Question

dextar Feb 17, 2004 02:10 PM

I have just recently been able to get a superworm (1 out of 10) to pupate into a beetle. All the others died in the process of becoming a beetle.

My question is can one superworm beetle produce larva? Exactly how do these guys reproduce? I'm wondering if I can start a little colony with this one beetle?

You need a few beetle to ensure that you have males and females. Keep temps in between 75-85 degrees and use some substate, and you should get larvae.

April is right, you need several beetles and proper set-up. For reams of info check the feeder forum's current and archived discussions on this at forums.kingsnake.com/forum.php?catid=9

I have kind of scratched the idea of breeding superworms, because the beetles stink (A LOT).

Although, I have read that a lot of people have a hard time getting these guys to pupate, but I don't seem to have that problem at all. Beetles keep popping up out of the substrate in my MHD's enclosure. I think if I wanted to actually breed these guys, I could just let 5-6 loose in the substrate and let them pupate and then put them all together.

I really don't know how exactly they are getting into the substrate, because I am 100% sure they cannot climb out of the feeder bowl. The only way they could be getting out is by climbing on Morgana when she is munching on some of them.
