Too Much Light??

gingersteve Feb 17, 2004 02:29 PM

I have 3 UVB/UVA light sources to cover the area of my beardie's tank, including a 4ft UV Flourescent., 2ft UV Flr, and Super UV Coil - in addition I have spot heat sources to give a good heat gradient, both vertical and horizontal, at commonly suggested ranges - i.e. ambient 75-80, basking 95-110.

My question is this - how do the beardies thermo-regulate - do they rely on sensors for heat or light, in other words, could all the additional UV lights be confusing the beardie as to where its prime basking spot should be, and therefore not be kept at optimum temps for digestion etc.

Also, is too much UV ligth dangerous for the beardies?

Thanks,
Steve

I personally believe, "as long as you don't go over the temps, you could never provide too much light". You could over do the length of light hours but that's about it. Brumation times are a different story.

I personally feel that "MOST" people do not provide enough light & if they had a set-up with more light, "like yours" they would see a world of difference in their dragons color!

I had my "Gem" in a cage with insufficient light & she looked very drab "normal" Well, this is her now, again in a well lit bin. I wish I had one of her when she was in the other cage.
