Substrate..

Usumbara Feb 17, 2004 02:39 PM

I read in an older post that Cyclura aren't burrowers and really don't need much substrate to be happy. (Atleast compared to my Tegu, who probably wouldn't know how to live if he couldn't dig.)

So does this mean that Cyclura are happy on just reptile carpet or something similiar?

What do YOU use for substrate?

I was kind of considering cypress mulch before I read that..

They are burrowers BUT they are opportunistic. They dont need to dig or wont if there is a hiding spot they can get into instead. some free roamers dont even have that and do fine.
each of mine have a hide box with a Kane mat on 1/2 and they sleep in there every night. I have never seen mine dig, even when outside but in the wild I've dug them out.
I use indoor/outdoor carpet as a substrate. When they were little I used newspaper in the tanks. I have never used a mulch, it always seemed too messy and ingestable. I am sure any choices in your post would work. Whatever is conveniant and eye pleasing for you

male or a female cornuta and how old?

Usumbara Feb 17, 2004 05:14 PM

It's an unsexed 14 inch Rhino.

In all of my question asking, I guess I neglected to ask for the age.

It was in the Classifieds not too long ago. It came from kwe (I'm buying it from the person who got it from him)
