Las Vegas in the middle of March

Trisnake Feb 17, 2004 02:47 PM

I will be in Las Vegas from March 13th until March 20th. I have obligations during the evening hours but my days will be free to do some herping. What can I expect to find during the day in the Las Vegas and/or Northwestern Arizona area during that time of year? I am some what familiar with the general area of Las Vegas and Northwestern Arizona. I am looking for names of specific spots which may yield the most herps for my girlfriend and I to see. Also, if I do have a night free and the temps are in the high 60's, what are my chances of finding anything while doing some road cruising?

I've been to Vegas during that same time period (March)--diurnal stuff may include Uta and chuckwallas, with occasional desert iguanas. I'd head out to Red Rock Canyon west of town, or Valley of Fire to the northeast (especially for chucks).

As far as road cruising goes, you can probably see some desert banded geckos, and perhaps some sidewinders and night snakes.

You can check out this page on my site for my NV findings.
