After seeing all the recent posts on budgett's, I just want to make one thing clear. Budgett's are not a good frog for people that are new in the hobby. As Bartlett suggests (and he is one of the authorities and pioneers of the larger anurans in captivty), Budgett's do REQUIRE brumation every once in a while. And for many novice keepers, brumation is either over their heads or possibly a death sentence to the frogs. Overall, they are not a good species for someone that just started out. They are relatively cheap as a fair amount are imported, though supposedly there are some CB out there (I am not sure who is actually breeding them though). I am not trying to discourage anyone, but it is like a person that decides to get a green tree python, and obviously more advanced species, as their first, second, or third snake. Budgett's require a bit more due to their special needs for brumation etc. Some people say they are having good luck with just plain water, but I first of all do not find this to be an appropriate set up for the frog and second of all have never heard LONG term results (and I am not talking a few months or ever just a few years, but true LONG TERM results). I am sure some people could care less about what I say, but to them all I can say is do your research. Do not get caught offguard. Thanks for reading. They are cute frogs, but they are a species that is best for someone that has a little more experience in my opinion.
