legally observing wildlife in southern new jesrsey?

First, let me save everyone the effort and point out that I am aware of what New Jersey F&G think of field herpers and what is NOT allowed there.

Having said that, I will be visiting Ocean County sometime this spring on a fishing trip and was concerned that in my travels I might accidently trip over a piece of trash or plywood and inadvertently uncover a reptile of some sort.
What I want to know is, has anyone [and I KNOW some reading this HAVE, and you know I know;^)] ever had the experience of uncovering any reptiles in this area [by accident of course?].
Just curious if anyone could offer any general, nonspecific info on such a thing ever happening. Email at suzzab@aol.com
