Herping Northwestern AZ and neighboring California

trisnake Feb 17, 2004 05:08 PM

I will be in Las Vegas from March 13th through March 20th and hope to be able to do a few herping trips during the day while I am there, weather permitting. Since the temps have a tendency to get up to the high 70's and possibly low 80's during that time of March, can anyone tell me the probability of seeing any herps during the day. I will settle for seeing anything including rattlesnakes. Also, since I will be making my day trips from L.V. can anyone tell me where I may want to be looking that would be less than 2 hours driving time from there?

I appreciate anyones input.

Chris

Get on the 15 freeway towards LA and roadcruise right after you pass the california border. There are plenty of little backroad out there. Most of the action you'll get is gopher snakes, nightsnakes, and maybe a few sidewinders(if your lucky). Once again this is just a matter of going out on a night that is warm enough. Regardless, best of luck to you.
