Hello, I have an eastern painted turtle hatchling. I cannot get him to eat Reptomin or any other type of commercial food. He chases his Guppies around in his tank, and he eats crickets w/a calcium supplement powder on them but he wont eat anything thats not moving. How can I get him to eat other things besides crickets?

Thanks

Keep offering the Reptomin - he needs a complete diet to survive and grow. For now, kill the guppies by gently squeezing them while they are in the net and offer these to him. Also, purchase leaf or red worms (small eathworms) and cut them up so he can handle them. Keep trying with the Reptomin - it takes time.

Once he starts eating the Reptomin still offer the greens and guppies. There is a ton of protien in Reptomin, so you should not feed it as a staple. A better commercial food is Mazuri. You can order it from their website or you may be able to find it at like a Tractor Supply.

At this phase of growth the turtle needs a high protein diet. I have fed Mazuri in the past, but found its initial acceptance lower than Reptomin, although many people swear by it. I have had good luck with Reptomin with hundreds of juveniles.
