How would i breed mealies?

LeopardGeckoMan Feb 17, 2004 05:59 PM

1) can i just buy some mealworms from a local pet store and breed them or do i have to get them from the ground?

2) What substrate could i use to breed mealworms?

3) To breed mealworms would i just have to get a 2 1/2 gallon tank and just put some food in it and some potatoes?

4) Also how long would it take for me to get some mealworms and how long does it take them to grow large enough that i can feed them to my leos.

Thank you in advanced.

I've noticed that no one has answered you...I think it's because you're asking for a lot here, a whole tutorial! LOL!!

Do an online search for Mealworms and read up. Then, if you still have questions, come back and ask us. I think you'll get better responses if you ask more specific questions...and not 4 big ones all at once. LOL!

To answer your questions, yes, buy some from a pet store or order them online to get started. Put them in a plastic container (like tupperware) in about an inch of bedding. It's better if you leave the lid off otherwise you'll collect too much moisture. For the bedding, try bran flakes and oatmeal. You'll also need to give them a small piece of carrot or potato a couple times a week so that they have a moisture source. Not too much more than a small piece though, because too much will make the bedding mold.

This should get you started. Good luck.
