mites vs. ticks

what's the difference between mites and ticks?
how do i know which one my snake has?

Mites are really tiny "specs of pepper" that move around.

Ticks are bigger and are attached between the scales.

I've never really had a problem with either, but I've heard you should line your cage with white paper towels or plain newspaper. That will help you see if there are mites in the cage. Also watch your snakes behavior. Extended periods of soaking in its water bowl could be a sign of mites.
