ex wwf wrestler kills burmese python

grahammckay Feb 17, 2004 07:03 PM

WRESTLER Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts is being prosecuted — for starving his pet python to death.

RSPCA inspectors seized 12-ft Damien after a tip-off he was being neglected at the ex-WWF star’s home in London Colney, Herts.

The Burmese python died days later.

New Yorker Roberts, 50, denies causing unnecessary suffering.

He could be jailed for up to six months.

Thats terriable, that was one reason I fell in love with burms. Damion, man, I used to walk around and used a blow up snake as Damion, and give people the DDT. That sucks. Jake got all messed up on the drugs, he could have sold that snake for big bucks or given it to someone, jag, thats all I have to say.

I never did like the use of snakes in that manner. However, its supposed to be a free country so...I suppose one COULD use a snake in that manner humanely, but not if they are going to throw it around the stage, as I have seen done. Poor snakes....

WHat, Man HE was my idel when I was younger. I always loved the snake. That sux.

What a tragedy. I loved Jake the Snake as a kid. Like many others, that is what got me so fascinated in Pythons to start with. I have followed him over the years since he moved to England, and I thought he had finally got his life cleaned up. He was doing some motivational speaches and he was also a preacher. As most know, Jake battled drugs and alcohol, which led to his exit from the wrestling ring. I have always had this wish that he would make a surprise entrance back in the ring one day with Damian. I know many people do not like snakes being used for show like this, but at one time, Jake really loved and cared for Pythons and Boas. I remember reading lots about his animals. I have a hard time believing he intentionaly let Damian go down like that. I mean, how old was he anyway? I know if it is the original animal, he's had him for at least 20 years, and who knows how old he was at that point. Could it be that Damian was just very old? I would love to see the news article with all the facts. I'll do some digging and see if I can come up with anything good.

If this is true, somebody told me that Jake brought Damien into the ring and Earthquake sat on his head, crushing it. Don't know if it's true or not, thought someone else might know.

God I hope not. If he did, I hope he was charged.

Danny_Drexler Feb 19, 2004 12:59 PM

Earthquake didn't crush Damien, it was a stocking with sausage in it that he sat on in the snake bag, I read that in an interview a while ago. The real Damien was safe & Sound

Hmm...I still wonder about this story. I have been looking around and I see nothing of it anywhere on the net. It just seems odd considering that Jake was at one time, very good to his animals. It's hard to accept that a chilhood idle could let you down. In fact, I named my very first snake after him. Maybe we should try to contact Jake himself and get his side of the story. I'm sure if you look hard enough, you could find a way to contact him. Last I heard he was a Preacher, so maybe his Church would know something. His real name is Aurelian Smith, Jr.

hi this story is 100% true i actually got it from the sun newspaper which is a british newspaper if you go to
www.thesun.com or co.uk and search for jake roberts

kylewa Feb 18, 2004 11:19 PM

After doing some research, it seems that The Sun is a British tabloid type paper that exagerates a lot of stories. I found an article that stated that Jake did not starve the snake, but rather the snake would not eat, and he called the RSPCA and they took the snake. Also, the snake in question was not named 'Damian.' I will not state the name on this forum as it is not appropriate. Jake no longer owns any snakes. I knew that story seemed odd. The story also said Jake was 50 and from New York. Actually, he is 48 and from Texas.
