Are Leopards friendly?

matortoise Jun 09, 2003 08:36 AM

I have one quick question. I have been around sulcatas for some time. My girl Lola is the sweetest thing. Yes she does have a personality. When I go outside she comes right to me, and only me, not my friends or my wife. She stretches her neck out and lets me scratch her neck and head.
Anyway on to the question:
I was speaking with a guy (i just posted his power feeding question) He was also telling me that leopards don't respond to stimuli nearly the same as sulcata or other breeds. He said that as a general rule leopards are very shy and they just don't like people around them. I also noticed that in about 90% of the pics in the classifieds the leopards are tucked in their shells. I was asking because I have been debating if I will get 2 leopards as hatchlings. I will get them as pets with no intentions on breeding. If they are that reserved I may consider another breed.

Thanks for any help.

Leopards are reserved as a rule but there are exceptions and it is usually evident in the behavior of the hatchlings.

I agree, leopards are usually shy but there are always exception. I have 2 9-month-old leopards that I just recently acquired. One is very shy and just want to be left alone but she doesn't hide in her shell when she sees me. She would let me pet her on her head and hold on to her feet. The other one is all over the place, when I pet her head she sticks it all the way out and pushes it against my head to her head scratched. I also have 2 Indian Stars that are supposed to be shy. 1 is and the other one is very friendly and personable.
